About Los Angeles voice, singing, somatic, and movement coach Erika Ackerman
Voice, Singing, and Movement Coach, Erika Ackerman offers workshops, classes, and private coaching in Los Angeles.
I am a teacher, actor, and singer who has worked in and around the theatre for over 3 decades. Before moving to Los Angeles, I was a working actor in New York. I began my training in voice and movement at the age of 12 at Shakespeare and Company and began assistant teaching when I was 16. I was greatly influenced by my early teachers, Kristin Linklater, Tina Packer, and Karen Beaumont.
I began weekly voice lessons at the age of 10, and continued those lessons until I finished high school. Then I trained at the Boston Conservatory of Music as a Voice Major and completed two years of graduate studies in Acting at Circle in the Square.
When I was 15, I began teaching women's fitness classes. I went on to study Pilates®, Lotte Berk Method and Gyrokinesis. I did my aquatic training in Watsu® at Harbin Hot Springs in Northern California.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 1996, I have studied with the City Company in Suzuki Method, Anteas Theatre Company with Dakin Matthews in Shakespeare Text, and in Fitzmaurice Voicework®, working closely with mentor teachers Catherine Fitzmaurice, Saul Kotzubei, and Michael Morgan.
I am certified as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. This highly individual and comprehensive approach forms the foundation of the work I do with voice. I am also a certified teacher of Vocal Yoga® which strongly supports my coaching of singers.
In order to help people embody their full potential, I work as a voice coach, singing coach, audition and on-set coach, movement coach, aquatic therapist, and somatic therapist. I offer private coaching, group classes, and workshops. I love travel, and in addition to my Los Angeles based coaching, I offer workshops nationally and internationally.
