Erika Ackerman
I am a somatic therapist and voice and movement coach with over three decades of experience supporting artists and performers. Based in New York and Los Angeles, I offer private sessions, group classes, and workshops both nationally and internationally. My work integrates somatic therapy, voice, and movement to help individuals access greater embodiment, resilience, and expressive freedom.
I grew up in the Berkshires, where I trained in voice and movement at Shakespeare & Company and was deeply influenced by my early teachers, Kristin Linklater, Tina Packer, and Karen Beaumont. Karen, a somatic educator and movement therapist, became a formative mentor of mine, and I went on to shadow her for many years afterwards. My somatic training has been shaped by the work of Trish Arnold and Dr. Martha Eddy, along with long-term study of other leading pioneers in the field, including Peter Levine and David Grand. I hold certifications in Somatic Experiencing®, Brainspotting®, and Watsu®, and I continue to train in this dynamic and ever-evolving field.
My performance background includes studies at the Boston Conservatory of Music and graduate-level acting training at Circle in the Square. I am a certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, having worked closely with Catherine Fitzmaurice, Saul Kotzubei, and Michael Morgan. This highly individual and comprehensive approach forms the foundation of my vocal work. I am also a certified teacher of Vocal Yoga®, supporting my work with singers.
